A New Adventure | Moving Home to Florida

Article Circle, Alaska

What an incredible sabbatical this has been.  We have been on the road exploring the West for 7 months and our road trip has recently come to an end.  I am in mourning.  BIG TIME.  I have loved this time for us to be free, to explore, to see the most beautiful, varied, breathtaking landscapes that our country has to offer, all on our own time without a schedule, without normal everyday stresses, without any strings attached.  It has been a dream – that is the only way to describe it – and it already seems like a dream.  Like it didn’t happen.  I have to remind myself that it did happen and we were so lucky to have been able to take some time out of real life to explore and satisfy some wanderlust for a while.  If you think it has gotten the wanderlusting out of our systems, you are sadly mistaken.  It has only whetted our appetites for more travels, more meeting new people, more adventures, more crafting our lives to be what we want them to be.  But now it’s time to put down some roots and get back to reality, as much as that pains me.  And so we have moved back home to Florida!

THE PURSUIT OF ADVENTURE | FIRST WEEK – Florida and San Diego

IMG_1911

Well we have certainly gotten off to a slow start on this trip!  And that’s just fine by me.  One of my goals for this adventure is to slow down and take my time and enjoy the present without worrying about what the future holds – whether that’s two days into the future or two years into the future.  And so after a couple of days in Big Sur, we headed south to San Diego, where some of our favorite friends live.  We dropped the camper in front of their home in Cardiff, headed for a late night dinner at Pizza Port in Solana Beach, and the next day we were off to Florida for a few days.  Our nephew was being baptized, and conveniently we are temporarily retired and so we have all the time in the world to head back to the East Coast for such a momentous life event as a baptism!  Ryan and I have always said that no matter where in the world we live, we will make it a point to not miss the important family events, and that includes the time that we are on this road trip.

The Pursuit of Wanderlust: The Biltmore Hotel in Miami

Biltmore 1

A weekend getaway is necessary from time to time.  It’s good for the health, for the imagination and for the soul.  If it can involve a little bit of luxury, all the better!  Our weekend getaways almost always involve the opposite of luxury, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  However, staying in a swanky hotel from time to time isn’t too bad either.  And it’s good for the beauty sleep in a way that sleeping in a tent will never be!

This weekend we headed on the red eye from San Francisco to Miami.  Some dear friends of ours got married Friday night and they were so kind as to choose The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables as the home base for all of the wedding guests.  What a treat it was to stay there, and I only wish we could have stayed longer.  It is a lovely hotel, with beautiful architecture and thoughtful touches that make it feel so much like a Mediterranean getaway.

The Pursuit of Style: Boat Coverup

The end of summer and beginning of fall are the perfect time to stock up on finds for any upcoming beach or warm weather holidays, or if you happen to be lucky enough to live in a place that is summertime all year long!  I have had my eye on this coverup for ages and then it went on sale recently so I snatched it up.  It’s made of terrycloth and has a tie back, perfect for a cooler morning out on the boat or lounging by the ocean for happy hour at sunset!

Bon Voyage!
