A weekend getaway is necessary from time to time. It’s good for the health, for the imagination and for the soul. If it can involve a little bit of luxury, all the better! Our weekend getaways almost always involve the opposite of luxury, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. However, staying in a swanky hotel from time to time isn’t too bad either. And it’s good for the beauty sleep in a way that sleeping in a tent will never be!
This weekend we headed on the red eye from San Francisco to Miami. Some dear friends of ours got married Friday night and they were so kind as to choose The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables as the home base for all of the wedding guests. What a treat it was to stay there, and I only wish we could have stayed longer. It is a lovely hotel, with beautiful architecture and thoughtful touches that make it feel so much like a Mediterranean getaway.
The lobby is quite comfy – we curled up on these couches early morning before we were able to check into our room.
Look at this amazing pool. Apparently the actor of Tarzan used to be a swimming instructor here! Unfortunately for our weekend, we weren’t able to spend too much time by the pool because it was raining on and off. But we were able to lounge for a bit of sunshine, which was much needed.
There is a world class golf course on the property that we glimpsed from the portico behind the hotel, but didn’t have a chance to play. … plus I’m pretty sure my one Golf-for-Business class in undergrad wouldn’t have prepared me for playing on a course like this.
This would be such a lovely spot for a wedding.
And the rooms – the beds! So comfy and cushy and clean. I wanted nothing more than to stay in bed all day and read. Or lounge by the pool. It was a hard decision that I didn’t have to make. The spattering of rain, so typical of Florida, forced us to stay inside and be lazy. Another thing that we never do. What a blessing!
I’d highly recommend a stay at the Biltmore Hotel if you find yourself in need of a weekend getaway in Miami!
